How to Dove Hunt Article By: Andrea Valdez

Dove hunting season is a popular time in Texas. Texas has more dove than in any other state, and Mourning dove and White-wing dove can be found all over the state. When Labor Day hits, Texans take to the fields ready to enjoy lots of shooting and camaraderie with friends and family.

Our fields of sunflowers, dove weed, maize and stock tanks attract the local birds in this area for the early part of the season. Haskell County lies in the central flyway and generally has a constant migration from early to latter part of the season. This is truly the test of a hunter and the delight of those who like to see and pursue birds in their natural habitat.

Enjoy a weekend with old friends! Father/son, Mother/daughter or the whole family dove hunts are very popular! Women hunters welcome! Great for Corporate Outings!

We also offer Corporate hunts.

No where can you find a more perfect setting to build a strong relationship with your clients and prospective clients, with our spacious lodging and delicious home-cooked meals. The relaxed atmosphere, change of pace, no traffic, no hustle and bustle will relax you, so you can enjoy a day shooting in the field.

We have a Skeet Range for your pleasure for those that book the 2 day Dove Hunt Package.

September - October Dove Hunt

Texas dove hunting is great in September and October.  Dove hunting in Texas can be fast and furious.  You can choose between a 2 day hunting package that includes lodging and meals or daily hunts without lodging or meals.  If you like to shoot, and shoot a lot, Haskell County is the place to be.

December Split Season Dove Hunt

The 2016-2017 Texas dove hunting season dates have been approved by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), and this year the season has been extended from 70 days up to 90 days, per the new federal framework for migratory bird hunting seasons. The extra 20 days for the season are being split between the early and late parts of the season, giving Texas dove hunters additional time to bag some birds.

North Zone

That portion of the state north of a line beginning at the International Bridge south of Fort Hancock; thence north along FM 1088 to State Highway 20; thence west along State Highway 20 to State Highway 148; thence north along State Highway 148 to Interstate Highway 10 at Fort Hancock; thence east along Interstate Highway 10 to Interstate Highway 20; thence northeast along Interstate Highway 20 to Interstate Highway 30 at Fort Worth; thence northeast along Interstate Highway 30 to the Texas-Arkansas state line.

Dove Leg Bands

Please check doves you shoot for leg bands and report them. The bands are very small and easy to overlook. Previous studies indicated two-thirds of banded doves taken by hunters were never reported. High reporting rates maximize return on hunting license dollars spent for needed management information. Please report bands to 1-800-327-BAND (2263) or www.reportband.gov.

See the Know Your Doves brochure for species identification.

Did you know that 100% of your hunting and fishing license fees go to conservation?

It's true, 100% of your hunting and fishing license fees go to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for on-the-ground conservation efforts that help make Texas one of the best places in the country to hunt and fish. Fish stocking, wildlife management, habitat restoration, land conservation, and Texas Game Wardens are just some of the initiatives funded in part by your license fees. Thank you for your investment in Texas' natural resources.
